FCSN is happy to announce that the recently concluded seminar on Down syndrome, which was held on January 15 and 16, 2010 drew about 130 participants from all fields of specialisation.  Among the participants were speech therapists, physical therapists, occupational therapists, special education and general education teachers, as well as parents and college professors.  

FCSN would like to thank TAQA for the sponsorship and the Emirates Institute for Banking and Finance Studies for the free use of their facilities.  Most of all, we would like to thank the three speakers, namely; Dr. June Downing, Dr. Manal Rafik Jarour and Mr. Nazem Mansour.  As main lecturer, Dr. June Downing stressed the issue of accommodation of students with Down Syndrome into the regular educational system.  She taught numerous educational methods that can help facilitate teaching of students with special needs who are studying in mainstream schools.  Mr. Nazem Mansour of the Ministry of Social Affair updated the audience with the educational developments for people with Down Syndrome in the UAE, while Dr. Manal shared her successful journey as a mother to a young boy with Down Syndrome.
